The Arts

The Glennie Performing Arts Program starts in Junior Years where Dance, Visual Arts and Music lessons are taught from Kindergarten.

Our comprehensive curriculum and immersion programs ensure students thrive and develop a love of music, dance, and theatre. Through participation in the Arts, Glennie girls develop important leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, and learn how to navigate relationships and prioritise their time. Involvement in the Arts also encourages creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Choral Program

The Glennie School’s Prep to Year 12 Choral Program gives all students access to non-auditioned choirs that rehearse weekly and perform at key School events.

Our non-auditioned choirs focus on engagement and enjoyment in the Arts and choral singing. Students looking to extend their choral experience can audition for vocal ensembles from Year 5. The auditioned vocal ensembles focus on highly developed choral skills and choral blend.

G Minor Choir (Prep to Year 4, non-auditioned).

G Major Choir (Years 5-6, non-auditioned).

G Major Arpeggios (auditioned vocal ensemble for students in the G Major Choir).

School Choir (Years 7-12, social non-auditioned).

Performance Choir (Years 7-12 auditioned for members of School or Chamber Choir).

Chamber Choir (Years 7-12 auditioned vocal ensemble for members of Performance Choir).

Belles Voix (auditioned small contemporary vocal quartet).

Instrumental Program

Learning to play an instrument is associated with higher levels of academic achievement, as it promotes muscle memory and enhances executive functioning.

In Year 4, all students learn a woodwind (clarinet, flute, saxophone), brass (trumpet, trombone, tuba, euphonium), or rhythm (bass guitar, concert percussion) instrument. Lessons are taught weekly in small groups. Students who excel are invited to play in the Introductory Concert Band which develops their rhythm and intonation processing to prepare for larger ensemble playing.

In Year 5, students can elect to continue on their instrument and receive paired lessons throughout the year. Woodwind, brass, and rhythm students can also choose to enrol in extra-curricular music lessons.

Junior Years Immersion Program

In Year 2, all students engage in the Strings Immersion Program which includes weekly small group lessons on their chosen string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or double bass).

In Year 3, students are invited to join the Strings Performance Program and are offered paired lessons with talented musicians.

In Year 4, students are engaged in the Band Immersion Program which offers weekly small group lessons on brass instruments (trumpet, trombone, tuba, euphonium) and woodwind (flute, clarinet, saxophone). Students who excel are invited to play in the Introductory Concert Band which develops their rhythm and intonation processing to prepare for larger ensemble playing.

In Years 5 and 6, students are able to continue their small group lessons on their band or string instrument.

Students are encouraged to join either the Junior Years Concert Band or the Senior Years Concert Band first and then other ensembles. The Concert Bands are the foundation and largest ensemble for these instruments.
